hi guys,
I've never installed or used a dimming lighting interface unit before, this one as numbers 1-9 on it and an lcd display. im wanting to know how this works. there is a board that is labelled up lighting system in the back fitted with breakers for isolation the spot lights in banks. does the dimming switch dim all the lights at once or does it dim each section but all together when the signal is received? sorry if this doesn't make sense its hard to explain. the reason is because i am wanting to install LED gu10 lights but theres a large number of lamps and they would defo blow if they were all dimmed together?
can anyone shed any light (pardon the pun) on how the dimming system works or suggest an alternative method to install the led lights that all dim together?

thanks - Tom

its an existing system that looks quite old, the lamps that are in are mr16 off illuma transformers so chances are it could be illuma, theres no other info available no drawings or anything like that, looked across the internet for similar but had no luck so its more than likely been discontinued.

thanks for getting back pj

Sounds like you need to run it off a plugtop on the workbench and see what happens, add one light at a time and wait for the bang! If it's an older unit it's unlikely to be trailing edge so probably wouldn't dim LEDs which, for the most part, want trailing edge dimmers; try it with halogens first.

yeah might be worth a try, the system that in place at the minute dimms all of the mr16 lamps together, then can switch the bar lights on and the restaurant lights off and can dim down low. I agree with you there I didn't consider that, I might have to look into getting another dimmer unit in place thats compatible with the LEDs

thanks for the help pj!

and yes telectrix we do a lot has probably changed since you visited last I see ;)
