This question is for SON, SOX and halide lamps. If I were to replace a 250w SON lamp with a 150w SON, would it work? if not why and what would happen. Same question for SOX and Halide please.
 
I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of lighting, other than putting it up :) would it not depend on whether they had internal/external ignitors, would of thought the ballast units had a scope for change so I would say yes they would work. Although I'm normally wrong with these multiply choice questions lol

sorry I should have clarified that. I would be changing the lamp for the same type in respect of it ignitor.
 
Just had a quick scan of some literature and am going to have to change my mind, maybe :) it looks like the ballast unit needs to be the correct rating to allow the correct voltage/current to the lamp, if not this will cause the lamp to fail very quickly (apparently lol) I'm open to be re-educated on this as I've said, this certainly isn't my field.
