Hey, thinking of getting a d3, just wondering if anyone else has one, or are they more trouble then they are worth!

It's a landrover, it will suffer from a few gremlins. But it will also be a very capable vehicle capable of driving through, over or around anything.
Whatever gremlins do occur you can bet someone else has experienced it and posted the soloution on one of the forums.

I've got one and yes they do suffer from expensive faults. Check it's had the major stuff done e.g. wheel bearings front and rear, discs front and rear, front wishbones, rear suspension bushes, air suspension compressor, cam/drive belts at 100,000.The best advise I can give is get it from a reputable used car dealer and take out a very good used car warranty cos you will need it. After saying all that I wouldn't swop mine for anything, well maybe a D4.

There are a few disco 3 forums on the net I would suggest you go and have a look at them. If your handy with spanners there is also plenty of good advice and "how to's" for some some of the regular and not so regular maintenance on those forums

I've had 2 of those, a 2.5 and a 3.5 V6. Superselect auto box's, change into 4 wheel drive at up to 65mph. Both K plates but fully loaded even then. But Discoveries have the edge, permanent 4x4 and if you don't think you'll make it just hit the LOUD pedal and then the brakes cos you are there.

I'm looking at a Freelander 2, they likely to suffer bad as well?

It's a landrover, it will suffer gremlins, mostly electrical. There will be a wealth of information available on forums and a lot of independant landrover specialists who really do know their stuff.
Plus there is somewhat of a running joke amongst landrover owners which basically goes freelander=gaylander=hairdresser.
But if you can laugh if off they are fine.
I say all this as the proud owner of a defender and a freelander 1

Big case of luck involved with cars though isn't it. All cars have faults which are synonymous with them, yet you can have one for years and not experience a single one.

Got two lads at work who are big on their discos and regularly go off roading in them, I'm sure they'll be able to point me towards specialists if things go ---- up.

As for the Freelander over the disco and defender, it's purely a cost issue due to the missus going through baby season and not working.
