Hello all

I am fitting a new Manrose MF100T bathroom extractor fan and was wondering if it is ok if:

  • Thick (10mm i think) cable coming from CU - use to feed a shower, which is no longer there
  • Connect 10mm to 2mm in a junction box so easier to work with
  • Change MCB to 5/6 amp
  • Place 3 amp fuse in line before it hits a 10 amp 3 pole fan isolator switch
  • Switched live fed through a pull switch in bathroom

I suppose my main concern is the cable is too thick for this application. I think the MCB and fuse rating would be safe.

I know these are usually fitted to a lighting circuit, but it is real pain to get to and the old shower feed is accessible and not in use.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

Agree with westward.

The cable in question could be used to supply your new fan following some alterations, but the works may be notifiable and you will need some suitable equipment to test your install.

Best to employ the services of a competent electrician.

Christ! Please for your own sake employ an electrician to do it. It may look simple on paper but there's a lot more than meets the eye.

A fan wired in 10mm^2? LOL

Good luck with that idea.

Can't see that the existing could not be utilised, with suitable alterations.

Why not just come off of the lighting circuit?

as mentioned by Westward a link is the way forward, nothing wrong with that and the pull cord will then be the on off switch.

Thank you. We do have a window. Do you think my idea (even if is adds complexity) is workable? Nothing fundamentally wrong that I am missing?
