so did you find the cause? wherever possible i feed freezers on a non-RCD protected circuit

yes, it was a blanket weed preventer on a water feature. I have since split the load across independent consumer units...

Hi
I've got a commercial panini press grill on the blink. Its second hand but in really great, clean condition. Turn it on and after 4 mins the RCD trips. Tried it on another circuit, same thing. Opened it up, clean as a whistle, nothing corroded, loose or broken...it looks brand new. Took off top element covers; the elements look clean and in good nick....but the thermal insulator pads that sit on top of the elements are a very brittle and crumbly. Before I go ahead and order new ones, would anyone say that the earth leakage could be caused by these pads?

Hi Aldo: It's more likely to be a problem with the Element (s) leaking to Earth as the unit warms up, it's something that's reasonably common.
The only way to find out for sure is to get a Technician to do an Insulation test on the Elements, this may need to be done just after the unit has tripped the mains & while it's still warm.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Nice start to the weekend mate, you on the tools today ?
Time you stopped smoking anyway, told you before it'll stunt your growth :D

Used to love being the weekend on call Engineer, good excuse to stop my missus dragging me round the shops. Had to be by the phone, she never cottoned on that they could ring the mobile :D
