Hi there,

Can you help me I'm rather alarmed.

My sons school has just had a studend kitchen installed. The electric ovens are on a different phase to the socket outlets and he cooker switches are right next to the S.O's.

I thought it was against regs to place different phases within touching distance of each other because of the voltage difference, ie; greaterthan 240v.

Is this right or do I have it all wrong?

Does it have to be greater than touching distance away?
Considering I have seen light switches marked up as 400v as they control lights on different phases

I dont think its a problem as long as they are labelled properly..

Agree with jason on this but always assumed without reg checking that this concerns socket outlets within reach, and a switch or isolator, cover etc which houses a voltage exceeding 250v.
The risks are minimal its more to heed warning to a sparky following on, as 460v plus insulation exists between the two points.

i agree lables are the answer
in a room like that its the only way
or 1phase is going to be loaded up
and not balanced if all cookers and sockets are on the same phase

Accessories on different phases that are "simultaneously accessible" should have a warning notice/label of the voltage present on them.

No problem with them being close to each other.
