I think I may have stumbled upon a DIY full rewire as I cant believe a spark would do some of the crap ive just seen.
The list is way to long to to be specific but a few major problems are, in order of spot not necessarily most major.
The CU is labeled up incorrectly however the single RCD correctly reads blank as its in there but not connected! 50% of the downstairs ring is spured from the upstairs lighting, as is the outside light and ext socket.
The downstairs ring is wired behind the skirting which is missing in about 25% of the floor, the ring also runs across the room in a cut in the flooring.
The CU's only earth is to the gas main. It has so many faults I had to leave after disconnecting a load of sockets and correctly wiring up a couple. I have left it in a safer state but fewer points and labelled u the CU to reflect the RCD and the fact that 2 colour codes of cable are used.

I think the only way around this is anew CU and full rewire.
Anyone had this type of lash up before? Also the Earthing is this the electric boards problem?

Should be an MET at the cut out unless its a TT system, then it should have a rod banged in.

You still need a MET!!! Why do you think that a TT system doesn't need an MET?? Where else are you going to connect the main bonding cables from water an gas, The CU earth bar(s) the Main earth conductor from the rod??

I didn't to be honest as its a fair old run and through a brick wall. I did inform them that as the very least a test and bond should be carried out. I did sway away from a CU replacement as I think there are a few more serious issues to be resolved that a new CU wouldn't address and probably lead to a never ending bout of nuisance tripping.
I doubt if I've heard the last from them. Also noticed no smoke alarms as well as cheap lamps with clear signs of overheating and burnt plastic, the ring main passes through the joists in the same notch (not hole but notch) as the central heating pipes etc etc
