Hi

I have a megger 1553.

Was wondering if anyone has made their own wander leads up?

If so any info on cable csa or type of cable you purchased etc.

I have seen adaptors that you can use a standard extension reel with so not sure what route to take?

Reel of 1mm single core flex, con check and null leads, job done. Mine is red, but its a matter of preference.

Out of interest do you simply have crocodile clips attached to the ends of your wander lead OR do you have something more fancy like a croc clip on one end and then one of them female banana socket the other end???

i got a cable reel from morrisons and stripped it out the put a socket into the reel so i can plug into it and on the other end i have a banna push through end so i can croc clip or probe onto it. nice and tidy and all in for around a tenner for about 75mtrs i think

sorry to jump in on your post without answering your question but could you help, first time ive used this web page and i cant figure out how to make my own post, sorry again any advice would be welcome,

Regards chirs

I made my own up out of a length of 6mm earth cable, attached a banana jack and a crox clip i got from maplins for a couple of quid, null the leads or deduct the resistance of the test cables, job done, daves paying 60 quid or above for the megger or kewtech ones.

Croc clip on one end and connector block on other to get tight connection on meter probe. Its all very high tech, patent pending:cool:

Does it really matter tho what csa it is though?

Some have 1mm, 1.5mm or 4mm.

Also is stranded best?

I am going to make own up using a reel.
