Hello, my first post and I must point out I am a novice. I am planning to install some spiked garden lights which have a combined wattage of around 8 x35 watt. The cable is already in place from the previous owner of my property and my question is whether or not I need to fix some kind of safety trip switch. If so, what kind will I need please? Simple English if you will. Thanks.

Employ an electrician.

What is the cable connected to?

Thanks for a sensible response. The cable currently runs from the house mains to some old spike lamps which are beyond repair and my plan is to replace same.

Hum... not the answer I was expecting.

What is the cable connected to at the "house" end?

It appears to be just wired into a switch in the conservatory.

Would possibly think of suitable light fittings with a lighter load. You thought about LED's?
