Hi, Would I need to be part of a self certification scheme if i was not to do any domestic work? Just commercial based work? General maintenance in commercial/industrial premises. Also could i carry out pat testing without scheme? PIR im assuming i would need to be under scheme? I would have indemnity and liability insurance in place. I'm looking at starting own my own alongside my current job, but dont want to be part of a scheme unless i need to or the work loads picks up. Regards Aaron

You don't have the 2382?

No you don't need to be a member of any scheme to work on commercial/Industrial installations, the same as you don't for domestic, it just means that in domestic if you carry out work that is notifiable then you can notify and certificate yourself under a scheme membership. There is no notification required for Commercial/Industrial so need need for a scheme.

All Commercial/industrial work I did for myself, 95% of the contracts/tenders insisted on you being either a member of the ECA or NICEIC, the other 5% were mainly for people I knew. You may find this also

i have my 17th, 2391-10, pat and starting 2391-20 next month.

From your experience i will not get much if any work without the scheme then?

Can i PAT test without a scheme aswell? Sorry for the questions but i've only ever worked for a large contractor... so i never... ever see the business side of it, never see the money side of it..
