I am about to change the consumer unit at a domestic property and have noticed that the meter which was updated in 2008 has a funny little sliding switch on it in the bottom left corner with the word off. Does anybody know if this is an isolation device which will mean I can finish the job without calling out scottish and southern to swap the tails.

Yes, some newer types do.

The ones I've come accross have a small white switch located under a small red flap with a slotted screwdriver type head to them which you can turn off.

i have never seen a meter with an isolator on it, but you would still need to cut the tag to change the tails

Not with these type. The idea of the switch was so that you could change the tails yourself, the supply side was sealed up but the load side wasn't.

I dont think they were that popular as I havn't seen many.
