Do tesco need to conform to the Real Code? I'm not sure they are MCS registered.

Also from our exsperience:
Poly-crystalline cells are effectively a slice cut from a block of silicon, consisting of a large number of crystals. The panels have a speckled reflective appearance. These cells are an affordable option, ideal for domestic residences.

There are also other types of PV cells:-

Mono-crystalline cells are cut from a single crystal of silicon and have a smooth texture. These cells are slightly more efficient than the polycrystalline panels but are usually more expensive. They tend to the types used on schools and commercial buildings.

The usage is normally the other way round!

It isn't Tesco. Tesco are just a name to put to it. The Tesco renewable energy management company is here

Yet another marketing ploy that is outside the scope of REAL. I may well start my own and blatantly pump huge discounts and see what happens to me!

Be interesting to challenge their use of the MCS logo on their site, when it clearly says:

Enact Energy is a brand name used by the Enact Group of Companies. Our insulation service is managed by Enact Energy Management Limited registered in England and Wales No: 4699209, and our solar service is managed by Enact Energy Renewables Limited registered in England and Wales No: 7057417. Registered Office: 14 High Cross, Truro, Cornwall, TR1 2AJ.

and their use of the domain name is also breaking the rules

Domain name:
enactenergy.co.uk

Registrant:
ENact Energy

Registrant type:
Other UK Entity (e.g. clubs, associations, many universities)

Registrant's address:
Enact House
Tolvaddon Energy Park
Tolvaddon
Camborne
TR14 0HX
United Kingdom

Since they are clearly a commercial entity and not an 'other' ..

@Worcester point taken
So after the job is passed to Enact do they then sub it out, just wondered how many firms down from Tesco actually does the install and who has to phone the customer within 6 weeks for feedback.

By breaking it down into components, they avoid it all, then then only part that needs to be MCS registered is the installation team, - and that team has no responsibility for Design, SAP, payments / deposits. If you read the MCS process carefully it was actually designed so that sales and install could be quite seperate, look at the design checks and the commissioning checks they are electrical based.

It just us that sell as well as install that have to comply with it all.

I'm a bit confused I think I've missed something, what's wrong with Tesco offering 20% discount? I thought it was only at the visit/survey you weren't allowed to knock off more than £200 so that it isn't a pressurised sale. I don't like what they are doing anymore than anyone else but I have an email from NICEIC saying Sap 2009 is ok. I do know of a company working on this project and their work is ok, not well paid but it's helping with cashflow - and we all know what a pain that is!

@SRE you may be correct about point of sale, but be careful mate dont trust NICEIC they nearly dropped me in the poop with one of their own inspectors. NICEIC do not write the rules and to be honest I think they are load of muppets when you phone/email about grey areas for clarification. Go to page 8 of MCS 3002 it clearly states Sap 2005 and untill that is updated that is what we have to work to, but not Tesco as they are not MCS. We all know 2009 gives higher figures but hey ho makes them look the dogs doodoos.

Mmm but MCS told me to ask NICEIC because they do our inspections, NICEIC guys checked with their chief inspector and the man from Delmonte says either 2005 or 2009. I chased round in a circle from Real to MCS to NICEIC to Real etc trying to get them to agree and failed miserably ...

Interestingly the latest PVGIS figures which are based on actual irraditation over 20 years provide higher figures than 2009. I guess the debate goes on ....

Just to add to this. We use SAP2005 and Design figures as you are permitted to do under REAL code as long as you give no more emphasis to the design over SAP. Regardless of what SAP you are working to design figures will be higher and more accurate.

We've been doing this since being accredited. We have been REAL audited using this as well. The auditor was concerned at first but once I showed here the rule in the REAL code she was more than happy and thanked me for showing her where it was! (not a good show for a REAL auditor.......granted!)

Does SAP2009 really show a significant increase SAP2005?

Its a joke I know, NICEIC told me via email as long as I can show and I quote "transparency" ( what!) I can use 2009, Mr MCS Inspector NICEIC says NO, and quoted MCS 3002 I did show him the email from NICEIC, yep the debate goes on.....

I think it's about time we stood up to some of the so called inspectors!

How are we expected to be compliant when the regulators can't even agree. MCS say's this, NIC said that, REAL stuck their head in the sand!

Are we not paying to be in their club?

If you can show whats in any regulatory document, regardless of if its accepted by any organisation, then how can we be condemned for applying it in our quotations?

I hope you showed Mr NIC inspector Mr NIC's email? I know I would of.
