Had a call to see a client today and she mentioned that she wanted cu upgrade and wanted to fit new shed and put the existing supply back/alter it,i mentioned part p and she just looked blank, josaphine public doesnt have a clue what this is,begs the question are the scheme providers taking all the dough and not publicising it enough, apparently hips packs are gone/going as were a waste of time so what will happen with the part p schemes?

You are bang right mate, we pay through our noses and the scheme providers do very little if anything.
It isnt so bad in my area, it is surprising how many do know and have heard about Part P, but the schemes should do a lot more like putting some bloody great big full page ads in the daily papers.

Cheers.........Howard

should ne a national advesrtising campaign

I agree a big campaign to rid us of this ill thought out ill conceived legislation that has done nothing to promote electrical safety as from experience some of the cowboys are Part P registered and are still carrying out non compliant installations

I was in the electrical section of a DIY chain the other day they were selling everything including

Boards
Coils of 25mm Talis
SWA Glands
Henley blocks
Spare MCB's and RCBO's
Earthing blocks
PVC conduit

And everyting else you could need to rewire your house, they even had a big board up telling you about all the different parts in a board and what they did. But i bet you can guess what wasnt there.....

There was absoloutly no sign in anyway shape of form of anything that even remotley mentioned Part P. I would have expected at the very least a sign up that mentioned special locations or just something that made the public aware that there was even such a thing as Part P. They even give away those little flyers telling you how to change a socket or extractor fan and again not a single mention of Part P or special locations.

I fail to see why it is not a requirement of any retailer including wholesalers that sell electrical supplies not to at the very least have a sign informing people of the relevant requirements.

I only know what part p is since starting my course in January.

In my opinion it is only electricians or people that work alongside the electrical trade that actually know of it's name and what trade it is associated with. I bet many still couldn't explain what it is though :(

Err, well of course. Thats how its always been.

As already said, some kind of advertising campaign is the only way to inform the general public, (and some other trades too:rolleyes:) of part p.

Gas safe get it so why not part p.

Probably cos the scheme providers will have to pay for it:eek:

got to agree to your point, although i am in favour of partp in principle it has turned into a disaster, scheme providers such as Napit (the national association of PROFESSIONAL inspectors and testers) allowing members with a one week Di course to carry the badge. Its a joke and purely a way of making money.

The NIC seem to be the only ones that are doing something with adverts ! none of the others are ! if they all did then mabe people would know about it ! just renewed my anual fee inc public £2mil & employers liability £10mil insurance all for a cheap £558.00 ! NOT ! i know the whole things a joke but if i have to be part to this scam i will pay NIC !

i still think a goverment run scheme called "---" with a national advertising campaing, existing schemes can still run and do the donkey work but you would be classed as a "--- Napit" or "--- Niceic" registered contractor.

Yer and we'd all be eating --- extra strong mints and van diesel would be mistaken for a spark !
