Does anyone know if French qualifications are accepted in the UK ?

So the story is i want to train in France and i'm due to start the training next Monday, although due to a change in circumstances we will be moving back to the UK after my current house sells.

I'm now wondering whether there's any point spending several months and several hundred hours working for free in various companies to get this qualificqtion if it's not going to be acceptable in the UK ?

I'm not sure what i'd have to do to convert the qualification over.

Anyone got any insight?

But you won't know the UK regs and methods, and you won't have UK recognised qualifications. False economy?

I suggest you contact the UK Qualifying authority you wish to work under and ask them, but as far as I know the majority of French Electrician's are commercial rather than domestic trained as the domestic installations are totally the responsibility of the house owner, there is no such thing as an EICR unless the property is Let and even then the checks are a tick sheet.

Thanks for the tip, i'll do that. Here we do train in domestic - the course allows you to rewire a complete house start to finish (and includes installing brand new installations) y compris consumer unit, interior and exterior wiring, boilers, heating systems, etc etc.

Actually it's the opposite. Here we do domestic, commercial, industrial and connected home stuff including smart homes and telephone and wifi networking as part of the course. I've got the C&G books for the UK and literally 300 pages of the first book is health and safety for dummies, which isn't exactly a joy.

I think the H&S aspects of all kinds of work in all countries has got out of hand, it was much better when the Darwin principle applied its logic.

If you don't have much to lose by doing it then go ahead! Sure you won't be learning UK-specific rules and practice but the general skills and knowledge to work safely with electricity are pretty much universal.

I've looked up some stuff on the internet and it seems, for anyone that's interested, I would have to do an AM2, a 'mature candidate assessment' which is basically akin to an NVQ3, a British standard C&G and a health and safety course. So basically not worth it.

The problem was i don't know when my house is going to sell so i could be here for several months twiddling my thumbs, so wondered whether doing the course might be worth it anyway if i could simply switch over to the English system afterwards with a couple of day courses or something, but alas it's not that simple.

Tant pis pour toi indeed. I think I'll pop over to France and do the free course just for the hell of it. So you could contact NARIC and ask them as to translation of courses into the UK. Google NARIC.

I read some stuff about NARIC but they don't accept French quals apparently.
