UK Does this meet BS 7671/ Part P? Advice needed please!

Hiya,

Our neighbour runs an unarmoured cable on our land where I park my car, buried about an inch under the soil. This is used to power their garage and EV charger.

They have said that they have attempted to comply with BS7671 as it is in a green plastic pipe that looks like a hosepipe. We are still concerned about the safety, particularly as I drive my car over it and it it outside our back gate, so also accessible to the public. I'm not an electrician so getting a bit confused, but everything I'm reading about BS7671 leads me to believe that this should be an SWA cable and buried deeper underground. Can anyone give me advice please?

That does not comply to the regs,
Cables should be between 500/600cm
If vehicle are run over it then it can short out the cable, you should ask them
For some paper work to see if it complys

Thanks Buzz! There's definitely no easements or wayleaves for them to have it on our land. When we raised our concerns about it being slightly buried, they actually recommended that we uncover it with it just lying on the grass, which definitely doesn't seem right to me as it's a big trip hazard!

It's dangerous, and they have no right to run anything on your land, I suggest you politely ask them to remove it, where to is not your problem, it does beg the question why have they run the cable on your property and not their own?

We have already asked them to make it safe or reroute it, we might have to ask them just to remove it at this point as they're ignoring us now!

looks like a DIY bodge job.
at the end of the day nobody has a right to run services across your land without your permission.
is there a route they could take that does not have to pass over your land?

I know what I’d like to do… but I wouldn’t trust them to have the correct protective device at the supply end.

Whether it’s done right or not, if they don’t have permission, then it has to come out, no question.

At least your driveway will never freeze over… I can see that getting very warm when it’s being used.

I think they believe if they just ignore us we'll forget about it and let them keep it there. Now I'm aware they weren't being honest about the safety of it, there's no chance!

It's like being between a rock and a hard stone.you don't want to start a war with your neighbours but that to me is unacceptable, the cable has no protection ,May even not be rcd protected .I suppose if there ignoring you then you could phone your local council and voice your concerns .

Just park right on top of it and it’ll eventually pop what we protective device they’ve used.
