hi all just trying to get a bit of an idea as to whether i am too cheap or too expensive. still trying to get the hang of this pricing.

have been doing some work for a local factory.

replaced 6 6ft H/F twin fittings the ones in the plastic blow molded cases, all 15-20ft in the air requiring two people,
find a fault on a lighting circuit and fixing,
carrying out pat testing of 125 items,
replacing two emergency light fittings,
finding a fault on a water heater again 15ft in the air requiring two people, finding fault draining down and fitting new immersion refilling and testing,
replacing a non-concussive valve on a catering wash sink, fitting two iso valves etc, worked out 21.5 hrs total,

materials came to 599.52, i was looking ÂŁ1100 labour two guys including travelling and time sourcing parts/ materials,

does this sound too cheap?

also have been doing some work evenings and nights on a local chip shop refurb the owner told us had to be out of hours, what is the normal going rate for 'out of hours' works?
thanks for any help!!!

is that 21.5 hrs each or for 2! as for the chippie would have been better sorting a rate out with the owner before u started could lead to trouble if u hit him with a large unexpected bill

Sounds about right on the first one 2 people three days.
ÂŁ25/hr is quite low for OOH work, but if you normally charge ÂŁ15/hr then a good increase, you need to consider what this is stopping you from doing during the day and the inconvenience to the work life balance and price accordingly.

Id have been around the ÂŁ2200 mark labour (nights) if weekends would be more. sourcing of parts etc would be covered in a mark up on the materials.

ÂŁ25 is my hourly rate in normal working hours.

For out of hours I would be looking for 35 - 40

And that is taking the Double-dip into consideration - eg: I think that's cheap!

thanks for replies guys. i thought it was about right. as for the chippy the owner only allowed me in at nights as he didnt want to close the shop, but annoyingly he did allow the plumber in!!

we worked at the chippy for a few weeks on nights 2 of us. just really cant afford to lose any money at the minute as in big dispute with the plumber over another job which possibly may need court action. sometimes aint worth the hassell this game!!!!
