lots of cables run behind skirting boards & door architraves etc

code or not to code that is the question ...?

also connector block joints behind architraves to extend cables to new switch positions etc

house was only rewired 10 years ago , so don’t really want to suggest amother full rewire

Do they make 6mm metal architraves?

Not sure that classes as a 'rewire' though.

Could be a LIM on the certificate, but that's kinda defeating the point of the exercise.

Is all the cabling RCD protected?

Basically they want a board change and some other bits and pieces but the original rewire is an absolute dogs dinner and I’m reluctant to alter the wiring and put my name to it incase the next bloke assumes I did the lash up rewire ...

they are really nice people and heart is telling me to suggest pulling out some of the cabling and start again , but the house if fully decorated etc

why can’t people just do a proper job in the first place ...

It's better to tell them, or walk away.
I would say because of the crap job was done, I have declined the the job.

I'd say board change is in theory ok if the extent of works is completed properly on the certificate (assuming electrical tests OK), but agree about putting your name to it. Maybe a sticker on the consumer unit that says "warning, cables not in zones"?

Or stick some mini trunking next to the architrave?

Unfortunately there are clearly far too many people out there willing to do a bad job, or not knowing what a bad job is....

Lay it out to them straight and explain the problems, rather than simply tell them the re-wire wasn't up to scratch. I reckon they'll appreciate the honesty.
