Hello!

I am curious as to what the exact rules are in England for carrying out and signing off EICR's.

I am finding different answers across google and various forums, some may be outdated, some may be bullshi.

I myself have over 12 years sparking experience but I am just finishing off my NVQ to be fully qualified. I have come across a job where I would need to do a few EICR's and sign them off for building control. This is well within my capabilities and I would definitely consider myself as competent but, I am just wondering as I have not completed my NVQ neither am I a registered electrician am I "allowed" to carry out and sign the report?

Thanks!

There are no specific rules as such, legally anyway. BS7671 says "The periodic inspection and testing shall be carried out by one or more skilled persons competent in such work". And that's it.

You may find the person ordering the report may have their own requirements of you, such as CPS registration, qualifications etc, but that's up to them - check with you local building control. And a good idea to have insurance in place of course.
