i've just been offered a new job on the books , the boss was very keen to get me doing inspecting and testing for the company as they needed someone quickly to fill a gap.
the company are with NICEIC already. will i need to be assessed before i can sign stuff off. and are the company likely to pay for this?

If they are already niceic then they will have a qualified supervisor who should check through your test certificates and then counter sign then if the are all ok, if however you are filling said persons position as they have left the company then you may become this q/s and will have to be assessed by niceic, I'm sure the company would pay for this as they will not be able to issue certs until they appoint someone

the qualifying supervisor arrangement is the biggest load of codswallop, ive seen. In ptractice,it means that one bloke can sit in an office 100's of miles away from the jobs, and sign the certs, even though he's never seen the jobs. I work for a NICEIC company, and the work i install and inspect/test is never seen by the QS, whom ive never met. Its his competence that is assessed by the NICEIC, but mine that ensures the job is done safely. On jobs where there is production or process inviolved, we are snagged by engineers, but on smaller jobs this isnt the case.

thanks, i thought it would be something like that.
I am defo not going to be the QC for the firm, as in the interview i was asked when was the last time i did an inspect and test and i replied "at college"! so he knows i don't have that much experience but as long as i have the qualification then the job is mine
