I have had to replace the overload relay on a three phase DOL starter today. The coil to the contactor will now not energise unless I push the start button in along with the the stop button.

As I understand it start button makes the circuit / energises the coil (normal open) stop button breaks the circuit /de-energises the coil (normally closed)

Is the new coil faulty or has it been wired wrong. I would appreciate some advice, as I don't normally work with motors et

regards

Steve

As above it is wired wrong, Pushing the stop button should obviously not allow the coil to be powered!!
If it was just the start button you had to hold then I would say the retaining contact was not wired correctly.

As above, sounds very much like the stop button is wired incorrectly. If the coil was faulty it likely wouldn't work at all.

Confused as to how this has happened simply by changing the O/L?!

should have a retaining contact on the coil circuit .sounds like you have the stop button wired as normaly open instead of normaly closed
