Hi, I'm about to swap out a domestic Consumer Unit in a building with Socket outlets mounted all over the skirting boards. Other than the socket outlets in the kitchen - do i have to move all the socket outlets up to 450mm and what about the issue of the socket outlets being mounted on a wooden backing, the regs say this is not compliant. It's just by swapping the CU all the other final circuits from it have to meet the new regs, but what about socket outlets on final circuits already installed under previous regs?? Any advice or where to look for guidance on this within the regs would be most helpful, many thanks in advance.

if the sockets are safe as they are, no problem, leave them. just ensure all sockets are correct polarity, have the cpc's sleeved, do a full test, continuity, polarity, IR, Zs etc. and ensure bonding and earthing is adequate. there is nothing in the regs. says you have to reposition existing sockets. as Davey says. as long as you don't impair the existing safety of the installation.........
