Right,you would have enough quals,to get noticed,but a lot of positions on the rail job are filled via the "old boys" network.
Also,there is a lot of swapping between contractors/employers,which means eventually,everyone is related
Best thing to do,would be to interrogate your pals,who are "in" already,and seek contacts in other firms,via that route.
There are undoubtedly good positions,and remuneration available on the rail job,perhaps not as creamy as a few years back,but i would caution against any "street are paved with gold..." speeches,from those within.
You will hear plenty of talk of big money earned,for sitting around a night,or weekend,and working a day job alongside,but they never brag about the hours spent travelling in trackered vehicles,or any of the other work related inconveniences,which can add up,and in my opinion,to make it a normal paying enterprise.
As with a lot of things in life,right or wrong,who you know,can get you a lot further than what you know
