Looking to go from void property's in the domestic side to railway work and try earn some decent dough any help would be appreciated. Based in Glasgow.

Hi bud,you may have to be a little more specific,on what type of work is sought.

Is it electrical work,labour only,or track-side plant?

I have several pals,on with Quattro and Hydrex, down here, but it is not the same job as years ago,and there is still a fair bit of nepotism...

Right, but LV,DC,mechanical? You will have to describe the type of job,you have either seen,or are wanting.
Do you know anybody who is employed, doing the specific work, you seek?

Seen one for assistant project engineer that caught my interest, know a few sparks doing telecoms on the rails with carillion who said it's a great number and pays good, truthfully mate don't really know what job I would realistically expect to gain with my experience. 17th edition svq3, inspection and testing and registered NICEIC qualified supervisor for my current employer.

Right, you would have enough quals,to get noticed, but a lot of positions on the rail job are filled via the "old boys" network.
Also, there is a lot of swapping between contractors/employers,which means eventually, everyone is related :)

Best thing to do,would be to interrogate your pals, who are "in" already, and seek contacts in other firms, via that route.

There are undoubtedly good positions, and remuneration available on the rail job, perhaps not as creamy as a few years back, but i would caution against any "street are paved with gold..." speeches, from those within.

You will hear plenty of talk of big money earned, for sitting around a night,or weekend, and working a day job alongside, but they never brag about the hours spent travelling in trackered vehicles,or any of the other work related inconveniences, which can add up,and in my opinion,to make it a normal paying enterprise.

As with a lot of things in life, right or wrong, who you know, can get you a lot further than what you know ;) Good luck
