domestic hmo smoke alarm system

I have been asked to install a smoke alarm system for a client and need some clarification on what type( A B C D E ) of system you would advise.

6 or less tenants
Arranged ove 3/4 floors with small intermediate landings and kitchen on ground level but 3 steps down... does this constitute another floor?

Client wants to me to install aico radio link with control switch and call points but just need to check this is within bs 5839 as i do not have a copy. Many thanks

As you have said 4 storeys, You will be looking at Grade A min Category LD2.

Also if you don't own a copy of BS 5838-6 how do you know if your installation is correct? You would not install your standard electrical cables without BS 7671!

You need to ask the council dept that will be approving this hmo exactly what system they require. Unless you hold qualifications in fire alarm design and your insurance covers you for such work and design, I would be installing to specification only.

BC will give you the specification on applying for HMO licence. over 3 floors will be grade A full alarm in circulation areas, smokes, sounders and call points....bedrooms usually heats/sounders from grade A system, with additional mains/smokes non linked.
