Are there any good websites online showing the full domestic circuit test procedures to meet the 17th edition requirments, diagrams and methods for all the tests.

Voltage and Frequency
Wiring Polarity Checker
Insulation resistance (fault/ short circuit current)
ContinuityLoop Impedence
RCD Tripping time
RCD Tripping Current level (ramp test)

Hi Richard
Agree guidance note 3 is a good start also the NICEIC in online shop on website do dvd's for this purpose ! must admit i have them and worth getting and watching over and over again till its 2nd nature will also be worth teaching him some fault finding but as always unless your 100% on the subject best left to professionals before letting him loose on electrics plus another good way is get him to do a mock install on a board then work through tests that way you can check installing plus testing/inspecting etc also injuce faults and get him to go find.

Hi
Thanks for that but is there a chart that guides you with what test result it should be and if you were testing a lighting circuit what tests would you do?

Thanks

Mark

The OSG or Guidance Note 3 will give you the list of tests to do. Howevever it all depends on a lot of factors as to what tests you carry out on a particular installation and/ or circuit. You will need to know the sytem earthing arrangements, single phase or 3 phase etc. BS7671 tells you what the acceptable results are for particular tests, ie max loop impedance for breakers to meet disconnection times, max IR for different voltage bands etc.

Sorry if it sounds a bit complicated, but unfortunatley testing involves a hell of a lot more than just a chart with a list of results and tests
