Hi, I have been asked to install a door entry system, just a basic one door system with a phone and door release upstairs.
I have been looking around at different kits on market, and i was just wondering if someone could share a bit of light on the matter.
Do the electric door locks still have a normal key barrel? as if i dont go for a keypad externally then obiously still need a key to get it.
The other option are the magnetic type locks, would this system need a keypad externally? which are better?

does anyone have any complete kits to recommend?

any info would be great as fairly new to this area and the different systems.

thanks

Hi hursty.

There are hundreds of kits available and can recommend our kit selector which will help you narrow the choices, by selecting number of call button, entrance panel finish etc. Find the selector on *****************
Regarding the locking. The first question is. What type of door and what lock is already fitted? From there it's possible to answer your questions. You could also look at Electric Locking tool (select the Electric Locking tab - from the above url) on our web site which will help with this. Make selections from the drop down lists and it will leave you with the most suitable locking devices.

I hope this helps. If you need any more help just let me know.

Regards

Steve

Videx is decent equipment and mid ranged price wise. Videx have the 4000 and 8000 series. 4000 is stainless steel a bit tougher and 8000 slightly cheaper (actually replacing the older 800 series which you see everywhere). For door entry kits, you might also look at Comelit 8271 kit for a budget kit or SRS K5101S for a vandal resistant option. As I say there are hundreds available...

If the kit (for most makes) has a keypad (code lock) in the panel, then the lock output is a relay. If no keypad, the lock output is a switched negative. I cannot link you the diagram because my earlier reply was edited because of advertising. Therefore I'm not sure how to provide this information.

Locking...
In simple terms... If you have a Yale type lock (one that latches locked when you close the door), the keeper (on the frame) can be changed for a lock release (Google 'standard rim release'). This is a generic type and can be found easily on the web. You will need 12V AC version

I hope this helps :)
