Have been asked to wire up a Siemens "GIgaset HC 450 .

I want to include a door release, chap reckons you need to wire via another transformer .

Anyone with any experience of these

I haven't installed one of these before but, as you probably know, door releases are usually either 12v, 24v or very ocassionally 36v ac or dc. So, you would either need to power from a dc battery or a transformer off the 230ac supply. Also, you need to decide if the door release is to be fail open or fail closed. If it's a final exit fire door then it would normally be fail open, unless there is a non-key single action door opening facility installed so the door could be unlocked without the use of a key, e.g. a nightlatch lever.

Cheers for the info Gerry

The unit sends out 12v ac from control unit ( unit has a plug in transformer)and says straight to the door

release contacts. via the intercom

a sort of plug and play

The door release that is coming is 12v

All worked via DEKT phones .

When I got the info spoke to the tech guy and he was saying I need a tranformer and incorporate it into the

lock release .BUT none of the sent info says this it just says wire direct as above and as these are mainly for

domestic use . I concluded rightly or wrongly that IF one did have to wire via an external transformer then

th e info would say

The normal wiring would be 12ac from the control unit to the lock (ac lock)
fail-safe or fail-secure per gerry24. But if you want to control the door release
via a exit push-button (egress). Quick solution would be to phone tech guy again and ask if there is a pair you could connect your egress pair to in parallel at the hand-set or the controller. (which ever is most convenient).

The door is a small hall client walks in gets spotted on the ip camera press the buzzer that goes to phone

they release door via phones . The lock is only from outside going in . Leaving you just pull the door open

IF the electric goes this would be irrelevant as you can only get out. .

Have you had a look at the instructions yet I think the siemens unit just interupts the transformer supply to the door release. I think it's the same one I've put into a place a while back though I didn't have a door release. They had it on the gadget show the customer told me.

looked at instructions

" Door can be opened from handset

a standard door opener must be connected ( not supplied )

The Voltage pulse 12 v ac for opening the door is supplied by the hc 450 "

And the schematic shows plug one end into handset the other to door opener contacts.

Like I said if they wanted any jiggery pokery surely they would put it in the literature

I would guess that the door controller has a built in transformer so you can just connect direct to door release. There are some now that have a plug-in transformer, i.e. 3 pin plug into socket and then to door release, mainly for the diy market, but most others I have seen have a transormer built in to the door controller unit so you just connect straight to door release. Some also have a dc power back-up in case the main supply fails.

The issue with fail safe (open) or fail secure (closed) releases is mainly related to fire regs rather than security. If building has public access then clients have got to be able to get out without having to use a key, as they probabaly won't have one. Also, the manual overide has to meet Disability regs and should be a single action one-handed operation. So, although you say clients can only get out if the power fails they must be able to do so without a key etc and not be trapped in the hallway. Sorry if you know all this anyway.

This one has a cable you run from door release - intercom - controller which has a pulg in transformer.

As for the Regs its a rewire building control invoved first one have done.

( not including the all in one packs you get) no need to apoligise I appreciate your input . Cheers

Scott.

The Tech guy threw me saying you wire an external transformer in

What generally happens when I do something new is panic slightly then look for reasons why it will not work

and work myself up.
