Can anyone throw any light on why, after I have taken a spur off a ring main (via a fcu) for a toilet cubicle - ceiling light, mirror light and fan - the plug-in mains doorbell units 3 of them, are going off, regardless of whether fcu is switched on or off? only the ceiling light is permanently connected, ie not going thru the fcu switch.
the doorbell switch is battery powered - taking batt out has no effect, so something is switching the units on via the mains but I cant figure out what or how although I suspect a neutral may be involved, next step is to disconnect the spur completely but it is now in an awkward place behind 2 boxes.... help!!!
btw the ring is on an rcd, no tripping - everything else working ok....
Cheers,,,,,,,

How often are the chimes going off, and how randomly ? If it's infrequent, I would suggest that a neighbour has a bell unit with the rf set to the same dil switch configuration, probably the factory settings, that is setting the chimes off.

every few minutes, from 3 to 20 - I'm trying to establish if whether its when a light is switched on or an appliance is being plugged / unplugged but its not consistent... going over there now to have another look.......
it only seems to have started since I put in the spur and I've done several jobs there (its a b&b) and hasnt happened b4..

Are the plug in bell units programmable? You may need to reconfigure them following mains disconnection.
not sure - Ill check it out. it could be something to do with after power down something needs resetting...

Double glazing salesman at the door?
unfortunately not, altho i would have shot him by now if it was...

If it's a wireless it could be getting interference from another source.
When I press the key fob on my van my next door neighbours door bell chimes. It's great because I can't stand them so when I want to be awkward, a few presses and they run to their front door. All I can hear is the slamming of Thor door, even better when I give my little boy my keys to play with
