Evening all, can anyone tell me if Dorman Smith is still in existence, doing some upgrades at a set of industrial units supplied by a Dorman Smith Loadlimiter 200A 6 way T P and N board, havin trouble sourcing parts, or what make of mcb would fit as a replacement.

I have bought from him before, from memory he wanted 130 quid for a MCB lol, so that would be my last choice, however he does know where to get them, fair play to him.

May have been cheaper to replace the whole CU!! lol!!

Have no time for the older black bakelite MCB's, those things were crap even when they first appeared on the UK market!!

Very True however it was a floor standing unit in a school, the type which has 3 or 4 dbs inside the enclosure, the large industrial type, the MCB was only a simple c rated breaker mind, but it would have cost thousands to rip all that out and then re-test the whole school, the Council would have never considered it.

That's understandable then. Were the final circuit breakers that black bakelite stuff? If so you mean type 3 MCB. Don't think they did type 1 and 2 breakers at that time...

Yes it was, and thinking about it your right about the types. I know when I tried to find one it was near impossible and the guy in scotland could get them. The customer was prepared to cough up so I purchased it, Normally I would have pushed for a board change but I would have never even got close on that occassion. I have sinced stripped out a school DB system and got one or two of the old simplex breakers somewhere which are also ultra rare.

dont think this is the same guy,he only charged me 40 quid for a triple pole 100 amp contactor and enclosure, mind you he said it was sitting on his shelf for ages and was looking rid of it.
