A mates sent me some piccys of a light he's trying to fix. Its a normal looking transformed 12V light with a toroidal transformer (thats U/S) in it - the weird thing is one of the secondary windings goes off to the lamps, the other secondary attaches straight onto the body of the light fitting??

Has anyone ever seen or heard of this.

It just doesnt seen right at all, at 12V or not. He swears its straight out of the box and hasn't been fiddled with.

I've never seen owt like that in my life.

If I'm honest, my gut says (and theres a lot of it) foul play. I suspect Tankards need returning to the bar but every day is a school day.

here's the pictures he sent.

Yes, the car electrics analogy makes sense. Just never seen it done in a domestic premises in a light fitting. Is it actually allowed by the regs?

Thanks for the replies. Every day's a school day.

Yes, I suppose so. Thanks for your interest truckster.

I've posted stuff up before and waited weeks for one reply.... maybe its the way I type it sends people to Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............

Yeah i think this is quite common! I remember dropping my house keys across the two supporting legs of one of these desk lamps...

clicky

Needless to say it became apparent that the supporting legs also carried the juice to the lamp!
