Hello
Please can you advise
I bought a double integrated oven last year but we are moving and taking the oven to our new home but I have been told we have to put a oven back in so bought a second hand integrated double oven
My problem is the fuse rating on this second hand oven is 20amp and requires a 2.5mm cable
I have taken my new oven out and there is a 10mm 0r 8mm cable there and is procted by a 32amp rcd what am I to connect the 2.5mm on this second hand oven to ? someone has said to charge the fuse to a 20amp
Please help
Thank you paul
ps sorry for posting in others forums no one seems to know what to do ?

why don't you just connect the oven to the existing cable you already have and leave the fuse rating as is!!! the fuse is only there to protect the cable!!

i would ring a local spark and he can connect up for you and it will probably cost you ÂŁ25 quid if he is local and decent!

Well one thing is unless it was in your sales agreement you don't have to leave anything, I've been to houses where the last owners have taken lamps out of the rose with them.

There is no problems with fitting a lesser load onto a larger capacity. ie your 10mm^ cable is more than adequate for the 20amp load so leave that be.

In good practice with a smaller load you should size the protection device to suit. The protection device is for the cable not for that oven. But you wouldn't put a 4mm^ cable in with a 20amp breakers for lights even though in theory you could, but that is design what you have is slightly different.

As you can not change the RCD to 20amp unless your Part P it, which means you either contact your local building control or get a certified scheme Sparks in, which would cost you more than that oven most likely. I would personally check to see if you agreed to leave the oven there in the first place, if it wasn't agreed take it with you, with the other oven and forget it.

Another thing if you have had to get a PIR done for the sale, you will invalidate that by changing the the oven protection device.

hello thanks for all your replys
this secondhand oven is 4.07KW and in the booklet states to use a 2.5mm cable and use a 20amp fuse
at the present i have a 10mm or 8mm cable there and the fuse is 32amp
are you saying to replace the fuse with a 20amp fuse
then use the same 10mm or 8mm cable and connect to oven ?
thanks paul
