do they have to be low voltage or can i use 230v, i'm an industrial spark so don't normally do house hold but doing it as a favour any help appreciated!!

do you mean in the sofit? 230v is fine, but recommend IP44 or greater.

GU10's with LEDs, triggered by a PIR is how i usually install them. generally fit an override switch as well.

Yeah LEDs are the best choice need to be careful with heat (halogens might melt soffit)

i'm OK, my soffits are asbestos ( cough, cough)

Would take some serious halogen light to melt that then (mine are too, asbestos, btw), maybe 50,000 Watts?
