Down lights understairs

Been asked to put spots under stairs going up to a second floor anybody done this before just worried about heat

Any help appreciated

Yes, I have had occasion to install the smaller downlights under the stairs. There was no plan to put stair covering on and there was a lot room between the steps.
Since the stairs are likely to be the means of escape in the event of a fire, I would be reluctant to install anything more than LED lights and paint fire resistant paint on the underside of the step cavity.

Was thinking LEDs would you fit 240 or 12v fittings They need tobe same with landing lights so can't really use smaller Fittings

your fitting will give dimensions for clearance that need to be adhered to, if you fit a gu10 recess spot you can by all means fit a led low heat lamp but you have to design it as though it has a diocroic 50watt lamp in as its always possible to fit one again, if the underside is boarded direct on the stairs on the diagonal then i doubt this can be done, fitting any form of lighting under the staircase needs a risk assesment been made that if the fitting was to catch fire through fault will the stairs be protected for 30mins etc, and will their be a smoke detector near by to alert of the fire.
Had this discussion before that fitting led's to make it a lower fire risk isnt acceptable, you should assess the fitting and its location for all the different lamps that can be used in it.

I would agree with the other posters.
Also
I personally wouldn't use 12V lights since you may at some future point need to change the driver/TX. which would require a suitable access hole

we have installed some befor under the stairs and used LED lamps with fire hoods ect

but as soon as we left they changed them for 50W GU10 lamps nothing we can do about it...

they said it wasnt bright enuf

all my boss did was remmoned why not to use them
