hi everyone
i'm currently pricing up an single storey extension rewire and the owner wants downlights fitted in the ceiling. Problem is the ceiling is going to be in the apex of roof and the downlights will end up being fitted directly into the insulation gap between plasterboard of ceiling and roof lining/tiles (insulation will be the foam sheet type) .
anybody done this before? any advice on the type of downlights to use that could sit within the insulation layer would be appreciated.

I have fitted the 'Can' type downlights in this situation before with no problems. However if it is Kingspan type of insulation you need to make sure you cut out a big enough enclosure in this to prevent the light fitting overheating.

Also remember if it is going in the Apex you may want to look at tiltable downlights.

I have installed down-lights within my vaulted roof extension that has 100mm Celotex insulation; basically I battened 8 inches either side of the fitting positions to keep the insulation board in place and as the joists were 6" then there is also air space for heat loss.

As eskimo has suggested I have used adjustable MR11's, and have not had any problems; same lamps for the last 4 years.

check the regs 1st. some down lights emit the heat down and away from the lamp and some emit the heat up into the space. 1st check b4 u buy
