Downlights in Upvc Sofit

Hi all,
anyone know of any reason that IP rated downlights could not be fitted into a U-pvc sofit? - I supose one concideration could be heat, but is that a problem with U-pvc??????

CFL or LED don't produce enough heat to cause problems. I won't fit halogen because they can "yellow" white UPVc soffits. Some of the soffits are the thin twin skin cladding that looks like tongue and groove boards, nasty flimsy stuff!

One other thing - find out where the ends of the rafters and purlins are BEFORE you drill the soffits!!!!

i've fitted 35watt halogens in plastic soffit. no problem with the heat as it mostlly goes up.

Can I ask why you would install downlights in soffit? Are you trying to give an aesthetic lighting effect or is it for external security lighting?

I've never seen this type of lighting installed, doesn't it cause light to pollute the internal rooms through the windows?

LEDs are a winner plus you can convince your customer on the pay back of LEDs and no worrys of any heat

I fitted some actual in a box marked up as soffit lights the other week they were just g9 halogens( I think g9's anyway, the 12v ones) they were horrible!

I generally fit as welcome lights, triggered by a PIR.

I fit them to one of the bedroom switches ( change to a 2 gang ) people like the look of them ..... what can i say ....not for me
