downlights

hi i have just done a pir on a property with downlights which have no fire hoods on them can i ask if this is ok as there is no living space above i.e a code 4 or more serious and where to find this information thank you

what was above them!!??? loft of house / void in extension etc...!!

i would not worry about them and just mark down as an observation! providing they were IP rated for use i.e if a bathroom or shower room they ok.

Mate of mine used terracotta plant pots (decent sized ones with the holes in the bottom) on top of some JCC recessed fittings - he reckoned it worked a treat, although I've never tried it myself. It's mostly to do with the fire rating of the ceiling and maintaining that integrity in the unfortunate event of a fire.

how is that going to maintain the fire proof rating of a ceiling!??? as mentioned its got holes in bottom and its not sealed with that nice strip that goes around them.....!!

keeping insulation off yes fire proof!! HMMM... questionable! not having a go but pointing obvious out lol..

Hmm, yes - think I'll engage brain a bit next time! The 2 weren't meant to be part of the same paragraph. The plant pots were supposed to stop the insulation from "flopping" back over the fitting.

Fire rated ceilings require a fire rated fitting.

Sorry for any confusion - I'll get my coat...
