Hi all. My downstairs lights are taking very long to light up after I switch them on….can take 20+ secs for the light to actually light up after pressing the switch. Any idea why and how to resolve this please?

Thanks

What type of lights are they?

i.e.
led
cfl (compact fluorescent lamp)
halogen downlighters
normal looking lamps (light bulbs)

Normal looking light bulbs in kids bedroom & hallway….In my bedroom they are like the ones in pic.

I think you may have to Get an electrician round to have a look
in the mean time, you could change a light bulb and see if the new one lights instantly.

CFLs can take some time to “warm up” That’s the spiral glass type that are supposedly energy saving.

LEDs should be instant on. And filament… ie, old type bulbs and halogen should be instant.

Is it all the rooms or just one? Is it a regular switch, a dimmer, or a smart switch?

Both bedrooms downstairs are doing same and also the downstairs hallway light. Regular standard switches on all.

"It works" and "it's safe" are not necessarily the same thing. With DIY work, they are often far from the same thing.
