A client of mine wants to put a downstairs toilet under the stairs.
The problem is that the service head/ meter and customer unit (old) are sited in this area.
I can move the consumer unit out of this area, but of course can’t do much with the meter or service head.
The space is extremely tight and I reckon you’ve have to be vertically challenged to use the loo should it be there.
I’m looking in Part 7, Special installations or locations, but it’s not helping me much, or maybe I’m just missing it.
The ‘bottom’ line is (ha ha) that should the loo be placed in this area , you’d be able to lean forward and touch the meter. Of course this would be boxed in, but I’m trying to give you some idea of the space.
Has anyone had this problem, if so, were you able to resolve it and how.
Many thanks

Don`t think there are any regs which say you can`t have your meter/ board in a loo, as long as theres not a sink in close proximity

cloac room isnt a "Special Location" and if meter ect is boxed in there shouldnt be a problem although its not something id like myself

My thoughts exactly, to be honest I don't really want to do it, however needs must, plus there's loads of other works there too.
At least I can stop scanning the regs to find a reason for not doing it.
Think I'll suggest moving the CU (replace) at least then, it'll allow for a bit more space for boxing in the meter/head.
Thanks for your thoughts on this..

One other thing, is the meter a big old black one as some of the newer meters are very small and protrude less, it might be worth getting the meter changed if your boxing it behind a panel - you might be able to get it done free if you say its noisy or you can smell burning :D

It's not 'That' old, but old enough, and that's a well good suggestion, might leave out the smell burning bit. But that did make me laugh..., nice one !!

not long since done the same at home! Moved the Db out of the room which meant putting a switch fuse next to the meter, and then boxed it all in. Got a new meter being fitted next week cos i think the old one is ripping me off:D

a block of houses we look after (some of which are HMO) have the cu under the sink in the down stairs loo. another one has the cu behind a panel under the kitchen sink.(took me ages to find it). so i would say there is no problem with your install.

Bloody hell !!!
Gutterball thats just,............. amazing!
What the hell were they thinking?
Maybe I should start a thread, with the must out rage-ous installs we have seen???
Would be well entertaining - if nothing else !
Would you mind if I used your example to start it off???
'Cause that well takes the biscuit over anything I've ever seen.....
Cheers
