Has anyone come across a dual ended intercom system for opening an outside door e.g one that could be switched between an office in the day and a residence at night?

Two manufactures come to mind, Videx and GDX. Videx has a wide range of equipment that will fit that requirement easily with plenty of optionals. GDX is interesting that they sell kit of the shelf like Videx however you can get them to custom design panels and entry equipment as well if you give them detailed info. We have used both many many times for fitting out Local Authority premises which are all different in there requirements

Videx:- http://www.videx-security.com

GDX:- http://www.stanleysecurityproducts.co.uk/products--services/products--services.html (GDX has been bought out by Stanley the tool manufacture)

is the residence in the same building? you could just fit 2 handsets?

or you can fit a telephone adaptor so it will ring the office phone and on no answer it would then ring the next number so the residence or a mobile etc they also do these in gsm versions so you just fit a simcard obviously better to have it wired to a landline
