Phil

Right i will try to keep it short and simple.

I would be grateful if you would take 2 minutes out of your time to sign the petition on the governments website. Some of you may not have children yet but by the time you do hopefully this will have made it better for you.
My youngest has just started high school this September and the school have brought in a school uniform policy. I have no complaints about school uniform at all and in fact I welcome it. What I do have a problem with is being forced by the school to buy it from them alone even though the school uniform shops are selling it. I have confirmed this with the school so it is not just hearsay but the parents of the children who have bought the uniform from anywhere other than the school have had their children put into isolation and expelled if you are not able or do not want to pay again for a uniform which is exactly the same. a lot of schools are now implementing this now and tbh i think it is a disgrace. We have been forced to shell out for a jumper for the school which is 4x more expensive than it would have been at Asda or Tesco. They are forcing parents to buy the PE kits at stupidly inflated prices for instance i could have bought it for ÂŁ12 in the supermarket when at the school the same pe kit is ÂŁ65. I know before anyone says nothing to do with electrical and that is why it is in the chit chat but I am desperate to get the signatures together to force the MP`s to look at it. I also feel that affecting a childs education and also segregating them from their peers is disgusting and can`t believe it is allowed to be happening. I have contacted my local MP and will by passing this onto the local press also.

Thanks for reading :D

What we did in the exact same situation with our daughter's school was to go to the school shop and take a good look at what they were selling then went to the other outlet and compared the goods. Everything was exactly the same apart from the price tag so we bought the cheaper one.
The school are unable and unwilling to check, no one could have known by looking at the uniform so screw them and their petty little rules. OK it means a little less revenue for the school but it means more cash in your pocket.

If I could buy it else where I would have done mate, but they have a list of who has bought it and if they are missing from the list they are checking the labels. IMO it`s a disgrace and they should not be able to monopolise it. but seeing as it is now an academy they have a greater scope to govern themselves and their behaviour

Unfortunately there is fairly clear and detailed guidance from the OFT effectively saying they should not do this, but it then goes on to say but 75% of them do do it with which we are dissapointed. Not very effective.
Since this is only to provide profit for the school, despite what else they may say, it is really not on.

Signed for you.

I know it's a bit late but could you not mobilse the other parents, by checking labels they are going against guidance given by authorities greater than the head teacher and are potentially victimising and ostracising children from their peer group. "Haha your parents couldn't afford to buy from the right place" we all know how that works and how cruel kids can be to each other.
If all the parents got together and said no to this and demanded that there would be no inspections what would the head teacher do? My bet is back down straight away.

Don't like this heavy handed profiteering and the draconian attitude that singles out children for no good reason other than wearing a cheaper alternative to the schools overpriced uniform

Tell you what Phil, this is really boiling me up the more I think about it. Who the hell does this jumped up git think he/she is? How dare the school dictate where a perfectly compliant uniform be bought from?
It's a pity you didn't set this away at the beginning of the holidays mate we could have bombarded the school with emails demanding that they change their policy.
Have you thought about mentioning this to your local papers?

Signed - I think school uniforms are a great idea (well not so much when I was a kid) but using them in this way is a disgrace!!!
