Greetings all.

Has anyone tried an E-reader you know like the Kindle?

I was thinking of getting one and putting all the technical PDF's on it so I can read them at my leisure
without having to lug loads of paperwork around.

I don't really want to invest in a new lap top right now and thought this might be a cheaper and smaller alternative, E-readers are much smaller than lap tops.

So does anyone have any recommendations or are they a waste of time?

Thanks.

I would research some gadget forums for this. I have heard of people using kindles for tech pdfs and being dissapointed due to lack of clarity of detail. Apparently sony readers are better at this, so maybe worth some research.
Have you considered a small cheap tablet pc ?

Thanks for that I will do as you advice.

From the screen shots of E-readers I have seen they don't look like they can produce a nice clear print of a diagram and most of them do not have colours only black and white.

I shall continue researching.

The mrs got a kindle for christmas, personally I'm not a fan and would rather use something like an ipad or some other tablet etc.

I use an ipad, with kindle and apple ibook apps.
I also have a free PDF app, which allows me to read drawings Emailed to me.
The PDF app does allow me to write to form fillable PDFs, but it's a bit clunky, not as bad as using the Adobe typewriter tool, but not that much better.
I don't know if I were to purchase the PDF app, whether it would be any better or easier to use.
The ipad screen is a reasonable size for viewing drawings, and if all you're interested in is what connections to make for supply, you can even use the same app on the iphone.
I also have a program on my PC, which allows me to convert just about any text file type to another.
Word to Kindle (mobi), PDF to kindle, etc.

I think the kindle is great as a standard e-book reader, I like the screen technology, I like the size and weight and I like the fact it only needs charging every two months. That said I wouldn't recommend the kindle for books that have drawings and graphics. The screen on mine is greyscale and the rendering of pictures and drawings isn't the greatest.

I've yet to be convinced this is a viable alternative the laptop/netbook/tablet, because all the ones I've tested are very poor displaying graphics. However, reports from the US suggest the Kindle Fire is the first E-reader to display graphics accurately and in colour.

Ipad for me, i have not owned or used any other type of device, when they bring a new one out this one will given to her indoors, and I would get a bigger memory one.

I pad for me too, have tower p'cs, two laptops and have not gone near them since getting I Pad. It does just about everything. :-)

I find the ipad a bit clunky for browsing forums.
You also get all those adverts on the side, taking up half the page.

i got the kindle a couple of years ago as a joint pressie that everyone chipped in for. tbh the normal books were ok on it. the pdfs were a pain in the rear to read and i could not get any academic books at that time for it. not knocking it as a reader it just was not for me for what i needed.
