I have been asked to incorporate an e/stop into a fan shaker starter. The starter has a fan contactor, shaker contactor and a fan shaker timer and run down timer.
The actual starter unit has its own isolating switch and there is also an isolator adjacent to the starter(approx 6 inches away). The starter has a start and a reset/clean push buttons, the starter is dated 2000.The question is.. is it normal for these type of starters not to have a stop button, the requester has mentioned PUWER regs ..but does the fact that the starter has an integral isolating switch not cover any stopping issues ,and lastly do todays shaker starter units incorporate an e/stop as well as an isolator.I am just slightly reluctant to alter the control circuit unless it is really necessary. The starter is supplying a dust extraction unit.Any body out there got any views it will be interesting to hear.

First off, is there a need for an Estop.
Is there a danger to persons, or a possibillity that the device could be damaged if it cannot be stopped?
Secondly, could the device be damaged if stopped?

How for is the starter from the dust unit? Most DU’s I’ve worked on have an access platform, it should have a E-Stop located there.
It all comes down to accessibility of the stop button.

Therein lies the problem. I see no merit in further circular debate, so will bow out of this discussion.
