Discuss Eal/c&g mix and match? in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi. I'm looking for some advice regarding electrical courses.

i'm planning on starting on the path to becoming a qualified electrician.

a local college offers a Eal level 2 diploma in electrical installation on a part time basis 2 days a week, for 26 weeks. This would suit me as I work full time and have a young family so evenings would be more difficult.

however the only part time level 3 course I can find locally (at an actual college, not a overpriced training centre) is the city&guilds 2365 course.

so my question is, can I mix and match these qualifications? Or do I need to stick with eal if I do their level 2?

You'd need to ask the college who are doing the level 3 whether or not its acceptable...can't see why it wouldn't be, but to get on to level 3 you obviouslly need to show evidence that you've passed level 2...ring the local college that doesthe c+g2365 and ask them whether you can take this course if you've got the eal level 2 diploma.

I thought the QCF was supposed to sort this sort of thing out and set the equivalence level or is that just another training white elephant that doesn't work

Hi thanks for everyone's input.
I have found another (not quite as) local college that offers the C&G 2356 part time.
City of Bath college offer the level 2 part time, 18.30-21.00 one evening a week over 36 weeks.
2.5hrs x 36 weeks = 90hours
where as a training provider like tradeskills4u take 10weeks on a fulltime basis = 10weeks x (6hrs per day x 5 days a week) = 300hrs
Will the 90hours at the college be enough to learn the course properly?

Re: Eal/c&g mix and match?

Give city of Bristol college a ring and also I think Filton is now a construction college

Filton only offer the EAL 'equivalent' of the 2356, and from what I understand City of Bristol only offer it full time.

Bath looks like a good option, just slightly concerned as to wether the course hours are too low to learn the subject matter properly.
