It's probably been mentioned before..... just seen the following advert...

Are you sick of your current job? Would you like a new career that offers potential earnings of up to £50,747 per year?
Do you want to have a job that is both rewarding and enjoyable?
Becoming an electrician can offer such rewards.
For the last 8 or so years the UK has been gripped with a massive shortage of qualified electricians.
This skills shortage is set to worsen over the next 15 years as there are more people retiring from the industry than there are getting trained and entering it.

For this very reason it is a great time for you or anyone looking to get out of their current job, change career and join the electrical industry.
Even if you have little or no current experience – it doesn’t matter.
In a short space of time you could get all the skills required to get into the industry either in an employed position or running your own business.

The advert also clearly has this toot displayed in the same advert

How do they get away with these claims.... Conning some many people into believing it takes a "short time" to be come qualified and they can earn £70,000!!!

Money can't buy you happiness, but £50747 is surely going to make misery easier to live with. The 747 is kind of an irony thou, baring in mind it’s a big white elephant. :17:

How do they get to £50747??

If you work 52 weeks a year, work 40 hours per week, have no overheads and charge £24.40 per hour its possible

So have a full diary, don't go sick, don't take bank holidays or holidays its possible then.......

But we have to do quotes, tax returns, VAT returns, Part P certificates, etc etc.

How massively unrealistic the advert is!

After knowing what I know in what it takes to be an electrician £50k is the least we could be asking for - not that we all get it. Unfortunately everyone talks about becoming this or that and earning lots of money, they always miss out to mention you need to follow it with hard work too to get anywhere near those sorts of figures! This is my additional point as I am sure you fellas will see to the skills shortage and other bits.

£50,747 seems to be a figure they like. If you look at some of the other adverts from similar training providers you can also earn £50, 747 as a plumber, green energy installer or energy assessor.

Also the way they're peddling these courses is somewhat ambiguous - they're saying a qualified electrician can earn up to £50,747, then flogging domestic installer short courses.
That's a bit like saying a surgeon can earn up to a million quid a year, then selling a basic first aid course for £7k.

It's the poor sods that are taken in buy these adverts I feel sorry for.....
We see 5 - 6 on here every week.... Luckily I think we convince the majority that they're about to waste their money

It can be an uphill struggle though - a lot of them come here saying: "OK first of all I know what you all think about fast track courses, but the only option available to me was to become a 5 week domestic installer otherwise my children will all starve to death."
After some salesman has sold them a promise of a better life for them and their family the last thing they want to hear is that they've just been suckered in to a scam and would have been better off staying in their previous job or doing it properly like we would have told them in the first place.
"You can lead a horse to water but you can't stop it sticking Lego up it's bum."
