To metal back box's.We all do it as a matter of good practice, but if found during a PIR test that flush sockets have no earth lead to the back box (1980's house) where/if anywhere in the regs are the words re - compliance and would this be a 'requires improvement' or 'does not comply' presumably wouldnt be an 'urgent attention'.
Thanks for any clarification.

there is no requirement to earth back boxes if they have 1 fixed lug. so no code.

If the wiring system incorporates a cpc cable there is no requirement for a fly lead to back box if there is at least one fixed lug on back box. Therefore no code.

Cheers, that was quick,They told me at college i should do it but couldnt really explain why other than it being an exposed metal part if socket is taken off,but that would be with the power off anyway ?

used to be mandatory, but IEE changed the rules. nevertheless , it's good practice to earth the back box.
