Good morning all,

Just been reading the thread about the 'Niceic view about Hot tubs' and thought I had better ask this question separately rather than hijack someone else's thread.
I have a similar situation, PME and have to install a separate supply to a CU in an outbuilding for a hot tub etc.
I intend to install a separate earth rod but the house is built in an area of Eastbourne that is on the beach, the shingle goes down a very long way, any suggestions.

Kind regards

David

Hi
I worked on a job once on a quarry and we had to get a very good reading with electrodes (less than 20 ohms I think it was). What we ended up doing was using the rods that you can couple together (Furze were the make I think) and driving them down with a kango fitted with a special attatchment. We were going down about 10M. We did this in several nearby spots and then connected them together with copper earth tape laid in trenches. This was the only way we could achieve a good reading. You have to make sure the rods are coupled together very tightly or they tend to shake loose with the vibration from the kango.
Another method I've seen used is to dig a big deep hole, throw in earth nests, surround the earth nests with coke and then bring a conductor up to wherever needed. Although the last method probably wont get deep enough for you.
