Earth upgrade

Just off the phone to EDF energy regarding a property in london that has no suppliers earth facility, I asked for them to send someone out and provide a connection and was told £230 + VAT and they would and if I wanted a PME upgrade £1000 or so..

Is the supplier not bound to supply an earthing point on an underground fed supplythat has the facility to earth??

I am just popping around to check if there is a suitable position for a TT spike lol

I'm pretty sure the supplier has to provide an earth to any new installations, but not to existing ones - this would be the customers responsibility. Daz

Yeah agree with dpg on that one,can be luck of the draw with lecci board ive never been charged yet for p.m.e conversion!

The elec suppliers are not great at the whole earthing thing when you call them. Often I have been to a property with no visible earth and when I call the elec co to confirm the earth at the property they get very confused and just keep transferring me to those nice recorded messages.

Sometimes I think it is quicker to just install an earth spike if there is no obvious earth supplied.

EDF just does not want to communicate so a TT spike does seem the only way forward .. many thanks for the replies ..
