WellBonded

Hi,
A few days ago I posted a question regarding some earth bonding work that was recently carried out at my home. The question was about bonding to the main incoming earth.

Today I have noticed that the cable which bonds to the water main has been run through the interior of two cupboards (a food cupboard and the cupboard under the sink), rather than the service void that exists behind the cupboards.

When I was initially shown the work, the cupboards were full and I could only see that the cable attached to the stop cock and appeared to run along the service void.

Having emptied the cupboards today, it is apparent that the contractor has run the cable inside the cupboard for the majority of the route (as shown by the attached pictures).

There is access to the side of the service void (although it is enclosed with a wooden panel). It would have been somewhat fiddly to drill a hole and feed the cable, but possible.

I suppose this is not immediately dangerous, because it is not a live cable, but it strikes me as a shortcut and as poor workmanship.

I wondered if anybody had any thoughts on whether this was at all acceptable.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I take you are not an electrician then if you have to ask whether a cable lying on a suspended ceiling is ok or not. It is not ok, a suspended ceiling does not provide suitable support, has many metal edges that could damage the cable and the cables would prevent/hinder access into the void above.

A floor however is adequate support as it is a solid structure intended to support far greater weight than that of the cable. BS7671 states that a cable lying on such a surface is adequately supported

The question was loaded. But you seem intelligent enough to have realised that. Aren't you?

To late pal half the jobs I visit have wireless earthing and bonding.:smilewinkgrin:
and it's not a new thing, either. " it's worked like that for 50 years, why do you want to rip the house apart to bung some cable in".

Not really an issue is it? Could do with a couple of clips in the smaller unit but otherwise fit for purpose.

What sort of impacts that are going to threaten the integrity of the conductor are you expecting this cable to be subject to when it is clipped tight to the back of the unit??
