New to this recently qualified just wanted to check on best practice when running a CPC to 230 volt GU10 spot lights. just had a job in commercial premises and none of the spot lights had any earth connection. Cpc was cut back by sparky who fitted them. Checked and the lights are class 1 not 2 so as far as i was concerned they should have had an earth connection. Just wanted to make sure i,m correct on this point appreciate any advice on this matter thanks

Hi, Ive earthed them before, The place i did it was the screw which holds the plastic terminal strip enclosure to the actual metal housing of the lamp, I couldnt think of anywhere else as there is no provision for an earth.

Many GU10 holders claim to be class 2, which is supposed to mean 'double insulated' but they don't seem to have counted up to 2 correctly. To me, if the insulation consists of a little polythene box with bare brass screw connectors inside that that is a single layer of insulation.

I tried to get hold of the BSEN definitions for these things, but you get charged £50 to download even really simple things like BS1362 (plug fuse). Does anybody know of a free place to download BS's
