Earthing

What is the preferred method of connecting your main earthing cables? I prefer the Earth block external to the Fuse board with links to main incomer, Gas, Water and Fuse board etc. With identification label denoting which is which. I have recently seen a rewire where all the earths were taken into / crammed into the fuse board using the earth terminal strip with no identification as to what was what. How do you do it?

Main earthing and bonding in CU isn't that hard if you choose a decent unit. Easy to label the cables.

And easy to test out to find what is what.

Nothing wrong with taking them into the consumer unit as most units these days have EEE then 123etc,but earth block just as good.

Hi AdieB, I prefer the same as you, external earth block, clearly labelled and each conductor labelled, I do get overly carried away with straight cables and perfect bends, my lads always laugh at me, but I like it to look "just so".

Always used the method of taking them into the con unit. Have no issue with having them external to the board but I wouldn't change my method now just for the sake of it.

does it not say the earths should go from CU to its point at incoming services
not external of CU to point at incoming services

in CU for me

All into CU, labelled up, jobs a goodun. Less clutter outside the CU

the less joints you have in any conductor....the better.....you really shouldn`t be having any probs getting earthing and bonding conductors into the C/Us earth bar......

Always, Always to a MET earth block or earth bar. ..The only conductors in a CU or DB should be those associated with the incoming supply and out going final circuits. Apart from that, the less cables going into a CU or DB the better!!!

...But like everything else in life, i guess there are always going to be exceptions!! lol!!!
