Discuss ECIR's on rented properties in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

I've heard somewhere, possibly on here that at some point a annual ECIR on rental properties will be required.

Is this actually happening? If so can anyone point me to official docs

many thanks

No there was a member, who strangely has now disappeared He was a Walter Mitty type who was going to get it through Parliament so they would have to have it done.

Haven't heard that one myself and TBH i really can't see how this would be enforced as local authorities can't even monitor a 5 year /10 year inspection and safety check on their properties or even when a refurb schedule is ongoing!!

It's more like a rule that landlords will have to follow, like getting the gas checked. Know one knows if you don't do it but your ****ed if you haven't and it goes wrong.

and anyone renting with a agent will be forced to

by law they have to supply a energy performance certificate for a new tenant,

So I think they should bloody have a ECIR.

Why?

Read the thread i have just posted and see how many agree with you.

Maybe it was a dream......
constant calls from estate agents with 100's of ECIR's loL

Not saying letting agenbts dont get them done, but there is no law to force them to have it done. Now should something happen to someone in a property that hasn't then the proverbial may well hit the fan.

I'm sure I've read it's happening maybe 2014 but can't remember where.

If this got implemented EICR's would become driveby worthless pieces of paper.
EICR's are becoming a joke already with all these scammer schemes allowing 6 week electricians course attenders to be let loose on installations without sufficient underpinning knowledge of what they are reporting on!!

Actually there is NO requirement for scheme membership to do EICR's - in fact all you need is to demonstrate competence!

And that would be SO boring.
Yes it would, but It'd be a nice stream of work lol

I don't actually think that a full inspection annually is actually needed, but I'm sure I read it was happening. It wasn't that post above.

I was talking to a estate agent that I do work for and mentioned it. Then I though I better find some details to back it up.....

i do think they should maybe at least a minimum of change of tenancy.

im sure some people have been renting the same property for years and have never had anyone look at the electrics...

i think it gives tenants the piece of mind that they have a safe home, and with more and more people renting due to silly house prices and landlords cashing, I think it's only fair they make sure their buildings are safe places.
